HandyDART drivers give strike notice

The Amalgamated Transitworkers Union (ATU) today issued 72-hour notice of a strike against MVT Canadian Bus, which took over a newly combined Metro Vancouver HandyDART service Jan. 1, 2009.
HandyDART serves customers unable to fully use TransLink’s regular system by reason of mental or physical impairment. The service provided about 1.4 million trips in 2008.

BC restricts cellphone use by drivers

Changes to the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) will take effect on Jan. 1, 2010 limiting the use of cellphones. Only hands-free cellphones and devices that require one touch to activate will be permitted. Drivers in the Graduated Licensing Program (GLP) won’t be allowed to use any phone while driving, not even hands-free models.
