Interview with Sonicblue crash survivor

In the second of a three-part series on air safety in Canada, the Toronto Star et al examine the air taxi industry, focusing on the crash of Sonicblue Flight 604, near Port Alberni in January 2006. Survivor Stacey Curtis gives a chilling account of the single-engine Cessna Caravan’s engine failure at 9,000 feet and deceased pilot Ed Huggett’s valiant attempt to land the powerless aircraft on a mountainside logging road.
The report’s authors say Transport Canada safety regulations for small airlines are too lax, and often poorly enforced, using Sonicblue as an illustrative example. (Source: Toronto Star, “Air taxi tragedy points to industry flaws“)
