The United States Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) now accepts electronic requests for Customs Rulings letter. A Customs Ruling letter is an advance opinion from CBP on tariff classification, duties or regulatory compliance affecting a particular transaction.
Whereas previously CBP would accept ruling requests only by letter, they now offer service via a web template and e-mail: Requirements for Electronic Ruling Requests service
CBP already maintains Customs Rulings Online Search System (CROSS), which is publicly accessible. The CROSS site is a good first reference point for USA imports with links to the Harmonized Tariff schedule, Customs Bulletins, Informed Compliance, Code of Federal Regulations and downloadable files of previous rulings.
