Port Vancouver Tries to Protect Cruise Business
Monday, April 25th, 2005 - 10:55 am
The U.S. Direct initiative allows passengers arriving at YVR to transfer directly to a same-day-departing cruise ship without clearing customs, and U.S. Direct also works in reverse. Passengers arriving on a cruise and flying out of YVR on the same day disembark the ship and are transferred to YVR without passing through Canada Border Services Agency and immigration at the cruise terminal. Upon arrival at YVR, these passengers enter the airport through a designated cruise ship facility. Procedures are in place to ensure a passenger can be seen by either government authority should the need arise.
This joint initiative with Vancouver Airport is further supported by an enhanced marketing campaign involving the Port, Tourism Vancouver, Tourism British Columbia and the Vancouver International Airport Authority.

The delivery of two Super Post-Panamax cranes destined for Vanterm terminal has been rescheduled to Wed, April 27 between 2:45pm - 3:45 pm. An inability to lower the cranes’ booms in time to create the necessary air draught for the vessel to transit safely under the Lions Gate Bridge during low tide is the reason for the delay, according to the Port.
