United States delays CAFTA

The United States will miss its target date of January 1, 2006 for implementing the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). The other signatories are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
The BBC item gives no reason for the delay, but notes how controversial the FTA is with American unions and some agricultural producers.
